The Nahariya North Promenade

Sometime in May 2013, a local paper advertised an item that the Nahariya Municipality plans to build a promenade on the northern side of the city, similar to the promenade on the southern end of the city, at a cost of 65 million NIS. Nahariya Municipality did not agree to show the plans to the residents of the city or to people in the opposition. However, someone did get a glimpse of the plan and reported that the promenade included 5 piers that were to be constructed into the water as well as a large quantity of buildings for commercial and restaurant use.

As a result of public outcry as well as the intervention of “Adam, Teva, and V’Din,” a process was established which included the public and residents of the area where the plans were exhibited and reservations raised. In our opinion this construction will permanently end the natural shoreline of the 100 meters between plan ג/4870 and the waterline – violating legislation which is supposed to preserve the natural beach environment. It is unclear whether this is a plan or not (prior to 2004). According to reports in the newspaper, this plan did receive approval from the Local Committee.
